Lofts at Capricorn

Mixed-Use

The largest market-rate residential development in the history of downtown Macon, Lofts at Capricorn is a unique mixed-use development anchored by the historic Capricorn Studios building. Closed and abandoned for over thirty years prior to its preservation, the Capricorn building was once a cultural landmark. This building gave birth to the music genre known as Southern Rock and was the launching pad for famous musicians such as Otis Redding, The Allman Brothers, Wet Willie and more. The development team successfully partnered with Mercer University, who agreed to steward the studio and incorporate the 20,000 square foot facility into its nationally recognized music program, to save this cultural icon while creating downtown Macon’s most sought after apartment offering.

“When we’re doing a project with Jim and Travis, I know my job as an economic developer is going to be downright easy.  They’ll do what they say they’re going to do, treat their partners fairly and bring adequate resources to get the job done in a way that doesn’t burden partners or taxpayers.”
